Islam
Before outlining the problems Muslims face in modern society, it is essential to give a background of Islam; the world's second most followed religion. Islam began in its present form 1400 years ago in Arabia, but swiftly become a world faith, and now has around 1,200 million adherents. There are between 1.2 and 2.6 million Muslims in the UK, about 600,000 of whom are active in the faith. Those who are not active still regard being a Muslim as an important part of their identity. "Islam" is Arabic word which means surrendering oneself to the will of God, and achieving peace and security by doing so. A person surrenders to the will of Allah by living and thinking in the way Allah has instructed. Islam is more than a system of belief. The faith provides a social and legal system and governs things like family life, law and order, ethics, dress, and cleanliness, as well as religious ritual and observance.Whether Britain, as a western power, is a "good" place to live for Muslims depends on what aspect of their lives you look at. For instance, in t
This is why Muslims brought up in Britain have become very confused as to what is right for them and what is wrong. Islam therefore becomes the perceived shadow self of the modernised and progressive West. Such an explicit expression of Islamophobia prompts many concerns. Indeed, the report suggests some sort of shared identity and insists this must include a universal acceptance of the English language and a respect for the law. It exists usually in the form of inaccurate media coverage. While many sections of the British media were conscientious in their reporting of the events of September 11, others weren't so responsible. Whether it "good" for Muslims to stay in Britain or not, a Guardian survey of the Muslim population in Britain found, if you're a Muslim in the UK today, you're two-and-a-half times more likely to be unemployed than a non-Muslim, you're three times more likely not to have a phone in your house, and you're twice as likely to die in childbirth. For example, on the 20th of September 2001, the Daily Mail contained a cartoon of stereotypical Muslim men standing outside the Houses of Parliament holding placards saying 'death to Britain and America', the caption reads, "Parasite (Chambers English Dictionary): a creature which obtains food and physical protection from a host which never benefits from its presence". Is it right that the people that are being discriminated against, have to give up their right to their own education, to help whites become more tolerable?. Thus following the majority, in which case they have adopted most of the British ways, keeping Islam only as a religion for practicing in the home and ignoring it as a way of life. Islamic Law is already being applied and consequently, the people are much more adherent to Islam. Islamophobia is an irrational fear of Muslims as people bent on imposing their religious and political views on the rest of society, if necessary by force. erms of their faith, commentators such as Wolfe believe that 'Islamic and British identities are in conflict which can be resolved only by the ascendancy of one or the other'. It refers not just to supporters of bin Laden, but refers to all Muslims without differentiation. In some countries where Muslims are in the majority, such as Saudi Arabia.
