It all started on December 16, 1770, in Bonn, Germany, where Ludwig Van Beethoven was born. The next day he was baptized into Christianity. He was oldest of three kids, with his brothers Casper and Nikolaus. His mother, a former chambermaid, was Maria, Magdalena. H
is Father, Johann van Beethoven, was a musician, playing the piano and violin just well enough to give lessons. That and the income from his voice lessons was his salary. As a young man, he worked at the elector’s singing soprano and tenor.
Johann wanted his eldest son to be a prodigy like Mozart, and started lessons very young. He appointed himself teacher for the young boy, and forced him to practice piano for hours at a time. Johann was an alcoholic, and it is said that he would drag poor Ludwig out of his bed at all hours of the night to play for his pub friends. Although Ludwig had to deal with all these afflictions, he still managed to take a liking to music, making up his own tunes in his spare time.

Beethoven continued composing, gaining fame and followers with each new piece. He published several important pieces including his sixth, seventh, and eighth symphonies, his Fielio and Eroica. However, when Napoleon decided to crown himself emperor, Beethoven ripped the title of the symphony in two. He later replaced it as “to celebrate the memory of a great man. As an alternative, he chose to go back to Vienna, to finish his career out as a composer. He gained fame quickly, as more and more people came to know his name. He secured to help of Christian Gottlob Neefe.
Year 1818 found Beethoven completely deaf.
Beethoven’s mother had died a painful death of tuberculosis, and his father could frequently be found in jail.
