Looking up at the gallons of water, falling hundreds of stories, feeling the mist encircling me, I cannot believe my eyes. It is a 317 foot plunge to the bottom of the jagged rocks. They are one of the most powerful waterfalls within Yosemite National Park.
Vernal Falls are a remarkable part of the nature that is surrounding me, in Yosemite. They flow over the edge to create a fast-flowing, boulder-filled, whitewater torrent with many small rapids and cascades. As I look around, I see all the peaceful animals scurrying about the mountain, living in harmony with this surging beast. Squirrels, chipmunks, birds, raccoons, all living amongst the rocks, water, and trees. I look up at the brilliant blue sky, clear as the eye can see. Everything but the waterfall is as still as can be, liv
. . .
The whole area is continually dampened by spray; the rocks are covered with moss and other water-loving plants. Just looking around I can feel my mouth gaping open, observing all the natural beauty God has placed on this earth. The sun is also shining brilliantly, causing transient mini rainbows to form, and change shape as the spray flows with the occasional light breeze. ing in perfect serenity and peacefulness. For some reason, beyond our understanding, I believe I was meant to be here, witness the sights, and hear the sounds that make you realize your part in this world. Rainbow after rainbow is forming, causing a multitude of colors to illuminate from the mist of the falls. On all sides, the cliffs ascend for what seems like miles. A person has to experience this beautiful place first hand to understand how small our lives are in the scheme of things, in our relationship to the environment, yet our lives contribute a significant amount to this environment. I feel like I am in the right place at the right time.
Surrounded by overpowering mountain, and numerous trees, I try to take it all in. We are such a small part of every else that is going on in the world, yet every detail of our life has been seen in advance, designed down to the little details. Everything in our lives has happened, and will happen for a reason. You can only experience the majestic silence and calmness I am experiencing if you have ever spent a peaceful day hiking through nature, or camping in the middle of the wilderness.
Capturing the awesome power and size of this amazing waterfall is relatively impossible. Rainbows, signs of tranquility and peace, signs that never again the world will flood, are causing me to have an overpowering sense of calmness and security.
