Schindlers List
Schindlers List is a movie that takes place during WWII. The movie begins in Krakow, Poland just after the collapse of the Polish army, and at the beginning of the German occupation. Oskar Schindler, a tall handsome womanizer arrives in the city looking to open a factory in order to gain profits from the war. At the time, Jewish people were no longer permitted to own a business, and were removed from their homes. Jews were sent to ghettos to live and forced labor camps in Plaszow , and then resettled in concentration camps for execution. Oskar obtains a factory that produces pots and pans from a Jewish man named Itzhak Stern, and makes Stern his accountant and manager. The two men form a strange relationship, with Oskar taking advantage of Sterns talent, and Stern distrustingly but obediently following Schindler orders. Schindler goes to the Jewish ghetto to get the rich Jewish people to invest into his factory, and to get the poor Jews to work for him, since they can provide him with cheap labor. By way of the black market, Schindler obtains numerous delicacies such as liquor and chocolate for the SS and German officers and sends them gift baskets to get on their good side. Schindler must race against time to save them, and in the end, Schindler rescues the Jews. It came in very useful in 1942, when Schindler learned that some of his worker were being sent to the Plaszow labor camp, which had a bad reputation. In 1929, the family business went bankrupt because of the Great Depression. Schindler List is one of those truly rare films which aspires to something more than filmed entertainment: it aspires to be something truly powerful, to depict something brutally horrifying and find the inner beauty deep inside it, somewhere. He would them make minute moves that showed Schindler as a callous man, who is compassionate and caring. " This film shows the historical tragedy that occurred during the Holocaust. Schindler wants to save the Jews, and he realizes that he is running out of time. Schindler kisses the little Jewish girl who gives him the gift, and Geoth gets mad because he broke the Race and Resettlement Act. The horror is alleviated, slightley by Janusz Kaminski's stunning black and white cineatography. The grateful Jews melt their gold fillings to create a ring, which they present as a gift to Schindler. Although he accepts the ring, he is regretful that he did not do more to save other Jews.
