Human Rights and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizens

             The 1791 Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizens was drafted by the French assembly due to the ignorance, neglect, and contempt of human rights caused by corruptions of government. One hundred and fifty-seven years later, the United Nations drafted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Both declarations stress the most basic human rights such as the right to freedom. The United Nations declaration is somewhat of an evolved version of the French declaration. An example of that is Microsoft's Windows program. When the first version of Windows emerged, new ones became available as time passed. They ranged from Windows 3.0, 95, 98, 2000, Me, and now the newest version is Windows XP. They are still based on previous versions but are altered to accommodate the changing needs caused by changing times. The United Nations declaration of universal human rights is an evolved version of the French declaration of the rights of man and citizens.
             Although the French declaration and the United Nations declaration have many similarities, they are close to two centuries apart. During the time of the French declaration was written, France was facing the aftermath of the French Revolution and troubles with the King and the Queen. The citizens of France overthrew their monarchy and established the first French Republic. As a result that revolution the Declaration of the Rights of Man was formed. France, being a religious state, declared: "in the presence of the Supreme Being, and with the hope of His blessing and favor, the sacred rights of men and citizen." (317). Under these conditions, the declarations primarily appeared to end public misfortunes by corrupted officials.
