Who is Gale Gibbs?

My second assignment in English 329 was to gather personal information from a student in class and write a paper about that person. I was very interested to start this assignment because of my interest in learning about other people’s experiences, dreams, and cultures.

Gale Gibbs is my subject for this paper. She likes to go by the name Martha. Martha portrays herself as a passionate woman who enjoys spending time with her family. She is a 38 year old single mother who is raising a 19 year old daughter. Martha is about 5’3” with curly black hair about shoulder length. She looks Hawaiian and to my surprise is mixed between the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Martha moved from New York City in 1990 to Savannah, George where she has been ever since. She enjoys going back to New York to visit her family and friends when ever she gets a chance. I asked her why she is attending Cranes and she said, “I am doing it for my daughter. My daughter has Attention Deficiency Disorder and a birth defect. Because of her handicap, she will not be able to attend college. So I decided to take the money that I had saved for her college fund and use it t

. . .

Martha’s career started as a Human Resources Manager with a company in Savannah, George. She has a great job making good money. Primary an A and B student, she went to her counselor to drop out because of her frustration over the professor and the grade she had received. I asked her if she wanted to eventually become a police officer and she indicated no. Martha has been to every beach on the east coast of Florida and is now working on visiting all the beaches on the west coast. She also enjoys gardening almost every weekend. She also loves to collect sea shells with he daughter.

This is Martha’s second semester at Cranes University. Her counselor managed to talk her into staying. ” I believe that she could be instrumental if she pursues this dream to help officers. If she was to become a police officer, she would have to worry about being shot and would rather not take the risk. It must have been extremely hard to make it where she is today. She had a falling out this on of her professors and received a C as her class grade. Not going into much detail, she indicated that her husband died. She employed about 250 jail inmates while working for the company.
