Nobuo Uematsu
I'm probably not exaggerating if I say that Nobuo Uematsu is the most famous gamemusician in the world. Since 1985 has he been composing music for the now world-famous games called "Final Fantasy", and is definitely one of the main reasons to the success. And even though he has a tight schedule and extremely high demands from the players, has he always written music of fantastic quality and many, many masterpieces.Nobuo was born in the end of the fifties, or more precise on March 21 1959, in Kouchi City in Japan. Like most parents do, Nobuos wanted him to become either a doctor or a lawyer. Nobuo himself had thought of a carrier as a pro-wrestler or an olympic athlete. Fortunally, something made him change his mind. During the seventies, artists such as Elton John and Mike Oldfield inspired him. He also claims to be a fan of ABBA. He began playing the piano at the age of 12, because at the time he wanted to be Elton John. He began studying at the Kanagawa-university, but was more interested in other things than his studies (he actually didn't study music). In some way, he finally managed to finish the studies and work with the things he liked to do. Until the age of 22, he joined many amateur bands as a keyboard player.
The last few years, Nobuo has begun listening to Irish fiddles, which is reflected in some of his creations. It's amazing to listen to how all the composers each had totally different creations by using the same three instruments. When Nobuo composed for the three first Final Fantasy-games, the equipment was not very advanced. He says that he think it's a waste of time to go over the manual, search the harddrive, or get at floppy-disk just to find a single trumpet synth. Even though he is the most famous game-music composer, he still works with very inexpensive equipment. Many people claim that "Nobuo is surrounded with computers this days", but that is quite a compliment, because he still just uses his cheap synth when composing. He likes to write ballads in the 70s style, and is very fond of lyrical songs. Nobuo thought that it sounded like an easy task, but when he began composing he realized that you need more tracks than that. I kind of miss the originality of the music back then. He struggled to produce originality in the same three notes, just like the other composers at that time. He also likes country music, which explains why singers with country-sounding voices have sung his latest vocal songs. Yes, you are one of the last staffs involved in the making of this album, too. That made composers focus on the melody itself, and Nobuo says that it made him think more about how each chord would move the audience. Such good music that even the staff working with the game gets emotional when playing it.
