The Big One

One of the very first problems Moore runs into is the company called Centralia shutting down. The conflict was that the company shutting down caused a large amount of workers to be laid off, or even fired. The people that Moore spoke to argued the affects of being laid off or fired. Not only does this mean that the workers would lose their job, but they would have to find a new one as well. They also were very upset and said that the suicide rate would go up, as would the divorce rate. A loss of employment affects a person, and how they react towards others. Just like the people he met with said, the rates of suicide and divorce would go up. It was my favorite part because of how amusing Moore behaved towards the man, and his ideas on the two of them racing in his new Nikes, but it was also very sad. The movie is a very interesting movie and it really shows in depth how companies and their representatives really treat their workers. They were also afraid to meet Moore in public in fear that they might be seen by their coworkers or managers. When Moore went to talk to the representatives of the company, they were extremely rude and told him to leave repeatedly. He was mistreated simply for asking a few questions about the company’s new changes, and for being curious about what would happen to the employees who were losing their jobs. hich eventually causes another conflict.

Moore also had a talk with workers of a local bookstore called Borders. The teenage workers in Indonesia are a perfect example of Conflict Theory. The human resource director was just as rude to Moore as the others were. The movie is very factual and informative in an extremely amusing way.

My favorite part of the movie was when Moore went to visit the C. Because of the sense of power they obtain from their positions, they treat others poorly.
