Macbeth
Q: Who is most responsible for Duncan's death? The witches, Macbeth, or Lady Macbeth. Out of the three characters responsible for Duncan's death, I feel the three witches are most guilty. Without their involvement, Lady Macbeth and Macbeth might not have become so dedicated towards kingship. Throughout the play the witches teased and tempted Macbeth with the throne, making him desire coronation by suggesting he would become king. The weird witches knew the outcome of their actions yet still persisted to interact and converse with Macbeth. Using their knowledge of future events and their persistence to speak with Macbeth about becoming king, I believe the three witches purposely caused the death of Duncan, therefore they
Because of his hastiness and impatience Macbeth makes a decision he might not have made; to kill the king. Had the witches not involved themselves in the situation Macbeth would have just become king. Knowing the result, they planted the ideas of coronation in Macbeths mind. This sets up Macbeth, because it makes him impatient and hasty. Because the king is healthy Macbeth interprets, he must kill him in order for the witches prophecy to come true. Had the witches kept their thoughts to themselves, Macbeth might not have come up with the idea of his being king. Through their prior knowledge of outcomes and their active involvement, I believe the three witches are most responsible for the death of Duncan. By doing so they purposely caused Macbeth to murder Duncan. Because they performed and talked in a certain way to get Macbeth to commit murder I believe the witches planned Duncans death and are most responsible for it. They're contact resulted in Macbeths and Lady Macbeths heightened awareness of the crown which boosted their ambition and led to Duncan's premature death. The witches consistently tried to get Macbeth focused on becoming king. While reminiscing about being king he relayed his thoughts to his wife, who influenced him to speed the process, by killing Duncan. During Macbeth's conversation with the witches they tease him about being king "All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Glamis! All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, Thane of Cawdor! All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter!" Here they're telling him he is to become king from now on, however according to him, Duncan the king is very healthy and alive. They only used Macbeth as a tool to carry out their plan.
