The Mindwalk± is a movie about a conversation between Jack, Sonia, andThomas. It takes place in one of Mont-Saint Michel's church tower in France. JackEdwards, played by Sam Waterson, is a politician who had just lost a presidentialcampaign in the United States and is facing a senate re-election. Sonia Hoffman, playedby Liv Ullman, is a scientist and a former physicist. Thomas Harriman, who is played byJohn Heard, is a poet who is a friend of Jack. The three have long discussions about the One of the topics discussed is the crisis of perception.± The crisis of perception isthe way people view something. People see many different problems occurring, but as aseparate issue. Crisis of perception is seeing these problems as a different branch of onesingle crisis. The root causes of this crisis of perception lies in one's habit of seeing andexperiencing oneself and the world as being established of separately existing fragments. Another topic discussed is of the politics of the impossible.± The issue with thepolitics of the impossible wasn't too clear. I think that the movie was showing us thatpolitics don't work. An important issue discussed in this film is between holistic vs. Jack and Thomas also had many questions for Sonya. At the end, he mad a little speech to Sonya and Jack. Thomas makes a statement in which he says he feels just as reduced being called a system± as being called a machine. Sonia says ultimately, whether we like it or not,we are all part of one inseparable web of relationships. She explained many thingsto them in the film. they don't really believe inpolitics. He relates this to the changing of the seasons. This thinking is outdated because it gives a false impression of the current state of physics. All three characters were so into their conversations and the talkbecame more alive and instructive. It gave me new perspective to see the world and live it. Socraticmethod is eliciting and sharpening the opinions of others by asking them questions. The systems theory states that the universe is one interconnected whole. ± She argues that the essence of lifeif self-organization. There were a lot of information passed on betweenJack, Sonya and Thomas.
