Killing the Children of Iraq & The Martyrs of Timor

             Documentaries reflect the values and attitudes of the maker. Explain whether these values and attitudes clash or confirm with your personal ones.
             After viewing Killing the children of Iraq by John Pilger and The Martyrs of Timor by Chris Downey the values and attitudes reflected by the makers of these documentaries were left with me. The simple values that we all take for granted, for example; Life, Human rights and Freedom are shown as great necessities for the people of Iraq and Timor. The techniques used to portray these values and attitudes are Dialogue, Music and the Images used.
             Killing the children of Iraq is about "the punishment of a whole nation, the killing of hundreds of thousands of people, many of them children." Basic human rights are taken away from the Iraqi people; this is shown dominantly through dialogue. Perhaps the most powerful example of this is what secretary Albright said, "We think the price was worth it" referring to the death of half a million Iraqi children. This depicts the attitudes of the US as being ruthless and willing to kill anyone at any cost.
             The Images shown on "Killing the ..." are horrific to say the least. Pilger uses these Images to allow us the viewers to feel pity for the children and to know that they are the victims. We are shown Images of children before the disease and after, children crying, and even more powerfully Images of bombs, planes, guns and soldiers. Before viewing this documentary I was not even close to being aware of the trauma the Iraqi children were going through and my attitude towards the Western counties who did nothing to stop this is an exceptionally negative one.
             The Martyrs of Timor traces the events that lead to the murder of four priests, a German man and two nuns who devoted their lives in the service of the East-Timor people. The only thing the Timor people wanted was to be an Independent nation, 78.5% of the v
