This first death is, for all purposes, not a personal loss for Tony. He did not know Lupito, but he was there, he did see this man die a terrible, violent death. For any child, this would certainly be a traumatic experience, but Tony takes it to almost an adult level by what is found inside his mind. He is almost a priest, or at least a very spiritual person, who thinks of the soul of the lost man.
