A Tragic Hero
How far would you go to stand up for what you believe in and stay true to your values?The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller in 1953 is an accurate portrait of the witch hunts and trials in Salem Massachusetts during the 17th century. Heroes are rare but in this case stood John Proctor. Proctor is an upright, out spoken, proud man. Except this hero doesn't have a happy John Proctor is revealed to be an outspoken man, which leads to his accusation in court.He is the only one that knew the truth because of Abigail Williams. Proct
John took his fall by him self and chose not to accuse others with no fault. " (Miller 143) In that case Proctor took the contract and ripped up. Though he then realized that all he had left is his name so he said "I have given you my soul leave me my name. This action symbolizes that he wasn't going to give in to what he knew was wrong. He truly did fight for the truth to be seen, others just could not accept it. Would you have given up your life for what you believed in? Honestly I probably would have been one of those who would have gone with the crowd in order to save my life. or was not afraid to speak his mind in front of the court. Proctor was an honorable up straight young man and a great example to others. Proctor's death was led by his pride. He did stand up for what he believed in and stayed true to his values. Proctor was well outspoken because he wanted to save his wife's life and many others that were accused. He died fighting for what he believed in, many people would not have done that . John's pride led to his own death. 2 In conclusion John Proctor sure does fit the role of a tragic hero.
