King Arthur

Why is it so hard to find truth in the life of one individual man and why and why do historians continue to try to unlock the myth. Though King Arthur is well established as a historical figure, there appears to be little evidence that he existed (Fishbaugh, 2002). The evidence that does exist is somewhat contradictory. He continues to batter the minds of historians because of the respect he has gained from his victories. The real Arthur if there was such a person, was not a king at all. This is about the only indisputable fact scholars can agree on (Michaels, 2000). If there is a clear historical basis to the character of King Arthur, it is clear that he would have gained fame as a warrior battling the Germanic Invaders (Samson, 2002). Since there is no conclusive evidence for or against Arthur's historicity, the debate will continue. But what cannot be denied is the influence of Arthur on literature, art, music, poetry, and society from the Middle Ages to the present.

Arthur gathered his people against the Saxons, ultimately forcing the enemy out of the country. In every one of the battles he emerged as a victor. His longevity continues because his court is always open to new heroes and has the ideal background for new story lines. By this time it is important to keep on mind that the story was already a popular myth and some today compare Arthur's question of existence to that of Jesus. King Arthur 4 The myth of King Arthur is what fascinates modern readers most (Daniels, 1999). " It is also important to note that Nennuius recorded that Arthur died in 539 A. A great many in hiding were discovered and killed. The King Arthur 7fact that we know so little about Arthur and the dark ages he came from is one of the reasons why after fifteen centuries of changes to and repetition of the story, he is still alive and well in our popular and even more in our serious culture. In my paper, I will research two of the most famous accounts that have helped skeptics to believe. They forced the Britons from their homes to mountains out of the country. Several ancient scientists have mentioned him and scholars feel there is a strong case for truth somewhere in these ancient documents. He is thought to have lived around the time of the Roman Empire. It is clear he will never die even if he never lived. describes Arthur as "the only person of the Royal Parentage to have come through the catastrophe in which his parents, who had once worn the purple togas, had been killed" (Daniels, 1999). Those who managed to remain in exile starved.
