Drinking good or bad?
When I think of underage drinking the first thing that really comes to my mind are teenagers. Some people think it is a bad idea to let teenagers drink when they are 18 or 19; I was one of those people who thought that. But when I looked at the other side of the issue I saw some good points. I saw how European teenagers can handle alcohol consumption like responsible adults. I was kind of one sided about this issue until I experienced the other side for myself. When I write this essay I will focus on the other side of the issue, how it would be a good thing to let American teenagers consume alcohol, how America would deal with it, and what the long term affects would be on the future generations.When I wrote my last essay about how underage drinking wasn't right for America, I talked about mostly the affects that drinking would have on our youth. All I really focused on was the negatives of underage drinking. I never really looked at what were the positives of underage drinking. When I went to Canada a little over two weeks ago I saw how teenagers drink responsible. I went to a dance club with a bar in it, all the adults there were treating teenagers like they were adults. You give them the freedom of being an adult. You probably wouldn't see as many drunken driving accidents. Some of the long term affects in letting teenagers drink at the age of 18 or 19 would be that there kids would be better educated on alcohol and drinking. All the things I have said and stated are good points to change the drinking age in America. You probably wouldn't see as many alcoholics in the country. According to the American Medical Association there is no scientific evidence that shows at what age people can safely begin to drink alcohol. Teenagers could go to a class on how to handle alcohol responsible. I wouldn't want to see my kid doing other drugs. Down the road I can see the government reducing the age; America is ready for the change. Parents could decide if their kids could get a license to drink. If a teenager takes the responsibility to drink it should be responsible for his or hers actions even though drinking is taking place in there parents house. I'm sure there would be some teenagers that would act irresponsible, but if you look at adults that are over 21 handle alcohol there are always some that act irresponsible when they drink. Parents in the future would know how to teach their kids on how to drink. It would start a trend of the generations and generations to come. This kind of class would show them how to act and how to treat alcohol in a mature manner.
