Entertainment at Its Best.
They have been around for centuries. Used to build churches, mosques, and big buildings. Now they're making a comeback in the modern day entertainment industry.Welcome to the era of the domed stadium. Have these domes really improved the quality of entertainment that much? Before the times of the domed stadiums, snow, rain, and cold weather often caused the games to be postponed or cancelled. The people in the entertainment industry knew they needed a big building able to host big sports events that can be enjoyed by all. If they created such a big building then there would have to be pillars in the middle of the field holding it up, which would affect game play. Thus came the idea of the domed sports stadium. When the architects Rod Robbie and Michael Allen were designing the Skydome, they knew it had to be something unique. Buck Martinez told them that the baseball players enjoyed playing outdoors more than indoors, and he gave them the idea of the a retractable stadium1. Then they had to go to work to figure out how to make this retactable stadium. They tried all sorts of ways and couldn't find anything that worked. One day at a restaurant they realized how a lobster's shell
In a comparison there are ups and downs to each of the stadiums. The seats in the ACC are also much more comfortable than the Skydome's hard plastic seats. Since the creation of the Skydome many other retractable dome have been built, the most famous one being Bank One Ballpark, home to the Arizona Diamondbacks. We go back to the home city of the Skydome to compare it to Toronto's new stadium, The Air Canada Center, known to the locals as the ACC. The Skydome can be compared to numerous other stadiums in Canada. A special path called the skywalk was built from Union station to the Skydome, because there were so many people coming to see the world champion Blue Jays. The fact that it cost about half the price of the Skydome makes it seem even better. It's capacity is larger than the Skydome's a very large 60, 000 people. Until a few years ago the Skydome had the biggest video screen in the world. The ACC is much smaller that the Skydome with a capacity of 19, 800 people during a basketball game and 1100 less during a hockey game. The Skydome was a revolution in sports stadiums, the players could enjoy the sun and when needed, be shielded from the rain. Skydome is equipped with a four star hotel, which is directly connected to the Skydome, and from some rooms the playing field is viewable so the games can be watched.
