T.V. Violence
From the time I remember watching my older siblings flip through the stations of our T.V. I remember violence on T.V. From the simplest children shows such as Heman, Shera, and Transformers the violence within television has risen. But what these pictures paint in our heads is a surreal image. Superheroes who save the world within a 20-minute time period become our role models. Families who fight and resolve their problems within an hour span are looked upon as the "all American family." These representations of American life within our culture have been based upon television. Americans base much of their knowledge of the outside world from the television set within their homes.Where is all of this "evidence coming from?" We should look a certain way, act a certain way, and have certain valuable possessions in our lives to be an American. Now this fairy tale life sounds great, sure we all know a few people in life that might even come close to it; but getting this life is harder than it looks. From the broadcasting stations in New York and around the world the "local" news blares from the television sets in American's living rooms. Managers and others select the media coverage, which will air on the 5 o'clock news. Sure there will be minute battles of courage, bold decision making agreements, and bitter sweet arguments, but in the end everything will be alright. This way of living is taught to us since day one. Television, on the other hand, makes it look so simple and easy. Violence usually plays a big part of that coverage. Going through four years of college, choosing a career path, and finally settling down with a lifetime partner can be a battle. These news broadcasters only report what is displayed in front of them.
