Culture Essay

The underlying theory of this essay is that business success and culture are somewhat (related independently) of each other and yet demand attention to detail, in order to summarise how one affects the other. Business success is determined by cultural factors, but to what extent? In an attempt to argue this case, one will first need to become familiar with the key elements that comprise an organisation and more importantly the business it has to offer. It is from here that we can then approach to concept of culture and the significant role it plays in today's corporate organisations. To what extent it determines the success of a business can surely be understood once it is wholly defined.A system that comprises the joint effort of individuals to deliver goods and services to meet the needs of a society, is what is viewed as a business. It is the incorporation of non-profit making as well as profit making concerns, which together endeavour to co-ordinate organisational functionality. It is the goals of the business and the way in which they are formulated that give definition to the term 'organisation'. Careful analysis of the organisation and its surrounding environment provides a good basis for formulating a set of objec

Every individual has their own set of historical values and beliefs, which they bring with them to the organisation. These multiple sub-cultures do not have to be detrimental to an organisation, as long as there is common ground. An organisation may place a certain importance to saving face - there is a strong orientation towards cultural collectivism, where the aim is to benefit their face value. It operates on a basis of automatic assumptions that can be used to deal with daily life. These different organisations, although function with the same goal to serve their society and strive to deliver products of similar, if not equal purpose, yet represent and maintain their own national identity. Instead, we analyse and interpret the content of culture and the degree of generalisation it has. It can be said that, various businesses experience culture at different degrees of extent, as a result of their own organisational development and efforts to achieve company goals. At a deeper level, an organisation can be seen as a group of people who work collectively to serve a business, by competing with that consistent stream of innovative ideas which stem from other sets of individuals who operate in that same organisational perspective. One may ask, whether it is possible to have a culturally conservative society that is able to adjust to rapid technical change. We all experience multiple cultural influences upon our lives deriving from our membership in national, organisational and vocational cultures. However, in definition, cultural homogeneity describes the resistance to change; the resistance to undertake innovative processes. Quite simply, it can be referred to as a co-ordination mechanism - which is the effective regulation of inter-dependant activities. Thus, being too culturally inclined has several dangers. Thus, there appears to be a sense of cultural 'homogeneity'.
