History Coursework: What were the origins of the Cultural Re

For my history coursework I have chosen the topic of the Cultural Revolution and Mao's China. The question will be broken into two parts, one which is based on the origins of the Cultural Revolution and what happened in it. The other part will be based on how it effected China after it had occurred. This investigation will include extensive research into why the Cutural Revolution was launched and a brief note on major events which occurr during it. And the consequences of the Cultural Revolution and its effects on China's society, economy, politics and other important aspects. I will first explain the origins which will be followed by finding the effects in general, relate them to the various aspects which I stated and explain how they can effect the society, government, economy or other aspects. After I have found a sufficient amount of effects and explained them, I will sum up all of them and reach a conclusion as to what extent did the Cultural Revolution effect China. All of this will be read from secondary sources. To start off I think it would be wise to start my coursework off by explaining briefly why Mao had decided to launch the Cultural revolution and what happened in it. The sources which I have chosen are text book

These students were influenced by their beloved chairman Mao and he encouraged them to go out and destroy the people using bourgeois attitudes within the university. Another reason for why Mao launched the Cultural Revolution was because he had wanted to get rid of his political opponents, who were Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaopeng who were not considered revisionists but hard-line leftists. Throughout the ten years the Red Guards had destroyed Buddhist temples, raided homes of professors to collect old things such as antiques, burnt books and Western style clothing. People who graduated from the best schools had been getting the better jobs and the countryside had remained poor while the cities were getting richer. The place where it had begun was in Shanghai when a play writter had wrote a play about a dictatorial emperor which Mao had taken as a criticism about himself. This was an example of capitalist ideology which was what Mao was originally trying to change ever since Guomindang had ruled China. Lin Biao was mysteriously killed in a plane crash after Mao had heard about the plot Lin was making against him, which left the seat for Mao's successor vacant. They were caught and tortured and Deng was exiled while Liu Shaoqi had died from poor treatment in his cell. The education which was being taught was based on the five loves which were: Love our great socialist motherland, Love our great Chinese people, Love oure great CCP, Love our great PLA and Love our great Chairman Mao. The Cultural Revolution started in 1966 and lasted for ten chaotic years. Now the capitalist system was coming back into China and Mao wanted to create a permanent revolution to get rid of capitalism for good and replace it with communism. G Roberts: Modern China an illustrated history, John Wood and Andrew McManus: China Revolutionary Leadership. Mao was now considered a God like figure in China, under Mao there were three distinctively different groups which were: the extreme radical Cultural Revolution group under Jiang Qing Mao's wife.
