Stress
What is stress? According to our text it is a psychological and physiological state of disruption cause by the presence of an unanticipated, disruptive, or stimulating event (Hahn, 52). Stress to me is upcoming graduation, dealing with relationships, and even entering the real world soon. Stress is a significant part of everyone's life and it occurs almost daily. Seems like you can't escape it. Many people might think of stress as just a bad thing, but surprisingly there is also such thing as good stress. I would have never believed it until I read about it myself. For this exercise I chose, oddly enough, to watch people at a casino and observed how they dealt with stress. A few days ago my friends and I had an idea of going to Mohegan Sun casino at 12:30am, so we went. We were there until 7:30am playing cards, but during this time I also was watching other players at our table thinking to myself, this is a perfect example of stress. Some of these players were throwing down a lot of money on a single bet and you could see them almost shaking and sweating waiting to see the outcome. For example, a young black male sat down at our table and put down $400 to be changed into chips. As he did that I could see him very ner
During the resistance stage the body attempts to bring itself back into an equilibrium. At first he was winning, probably up to almost $1,000, but began to crash. When people do experience stress it causes their body to produce and pump more adreniline through their body. I know I will be back soon to try again" I know this is an odd example but it seemed so clear to me when I was there. According to the Yerkes-Dodson Law, there is a level of stress which can help to peak performance. When he lost more money I boldly said to him,(I say boldly because he was mad), "man that's a tough loss. Durring this I caught him saying, "This (explicit) stresses me out big time. The table minimum was $10 but he was throwing down $50-$100 dollars at a time. As I said before there is good stress and bad stress. I hate loosing and when I do I need to put more money out because I believe I can win more. This man was acting out of line and we did not know what he would do when he loss. I do not mean to make judgments, but this man was very skinny and seemed like he has been up for a long time (granted it is 3am at the time). His "stressing out" was also causing other players, including myself and my friends, to experience some stress of our own.
