College Entrance

Since around the age of 11, my entire life has revolved around a solitary incident. Most of my life was spent growing up in Corpus Christi, Texas, which had an extremely large gang population. My first few years of living there went by great; I barely even noticed the gangs. To our surprise, there was a little Mexican boy not much older than us, and whom we both knew from school. Not knowing what to do, we ran as fast as we could to the nearest phone to call for help. A car speeding around the corner, coming up onto the curb and almost hitting us followed this. He was lying on the ground in a puddle of blood with his eyes closed and without any movement at all.
