As both a teacher and interpreter of the Christian faith, Paul has played a pivotal part in shaping this religious tradition. As an Apostle of Jesus Christ, Paul devoted his life to spreading the “good news” and reinforcing the correct teachings and beliefs in an attempt to unify the church of his time. It is thanks to Paul that Christianity is the way it is today. Paul faced death and persecution a number of times throughout his life. It is such actions as challenging the Jerusalem council that has lead to the extremely large number of Christians in the world today. Paul was a zealous preacher, who managed to get overall correctness and truth into the Christian faith. Throughout his missionary work, Paul travelled all over the ancient world, mostly Greece and Rome. One city of significance to which Paul travelled to is Corinth. Here Paul spent more than one and a half years during A.D 50 and 51. He later returned on another journey sometime between A.D 53 and 54. Paul’s First letter to the Corinthians plays a major part in the Christian faith today. it reads “ Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me : It is good for a man not to touch a woman. an attempt to rectify the serious problems faced by Christians in Corinth. Paul writes of the moral obligations that a married couple have to each other. Paul went about to correct these problems in both a theological and practical way. The idea of marriage being a sacred bond between two people under the eyes of God was put forward by Paul in his writings and is still the practical belief today. Such things as the definition of ‘Love’ in chapter 13 of Corinthians 1 is read at weddings and found in sermon texts. But I say this as a concession, not as a commandment. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement. For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions among you. The idea of unity put forward by Paul to the Corinthians has become the core factor that is keeping the church together today.
