Traditionally, plates are created through a time consuming prepress process that involves creating CMYK color separations and then developing large film negatives from which the plates are made. CTP improves the time and effort involved considerably by using a device(looks like a large printer) that accepts electronic files and then images the plates, removing the necessity for film development.
             • Waterless Litho - A method of offset litho printing without the use of water. The printed result is of very high quality along with the benefit of being an environmentally-friendly process.
             Electronic Paper - Electronic paper has taken a step closer with the development of a prototype flexible electronic display. It has only a few hundred pixels, but, say its inventors, it shows that high-quality displays could be built cheaply. The aim of the E-paper is to show electronic text on thin, flexible sheets that look and feel like paper. It would be put together in the form of a book or newspaper, with electronic pages downloaded using wireless technology.
             "There is no fundamental technology hurdle. All of the pieces are there," John Rogers of Bell Labs told BBC News Online.
             Letterpress not used commercially in today's society. The cost is high and the print runs are short. But a form of letterpress, flexography is commonly seen in the packaging industry. The process is very similar to letterpress except for the fact that the plate used is made of a flexible material such as rubber or plastic.
