Time is a Fire
In this book report paper, I will analyze about a novel titled Time is A Fire, which is written by Vikram Kapur. I will also divide this paper into two main parts. In the first part, I will summarize and take the points from the story. And, in the second part, I will write some of my opinion and critique from a specific main chapter that I choose instead, which is the fourth that talked about the marriage between Rose and Ajay. Based on my point of view, I can tell that the novel was trying to talk about the life about Amrita Gill, a pretty, nice, and smart girl who came from India. Who is later on met another two journalist, Deepak and Jaswant. The three of them worked together and tried to solve the riddle of Indira Gandhi's assassination and the relevance with the riots that took place in Delhi, India in 1984. I can see mystery, political history, and romance combined perfectly into one, which according to me is the best part of the novel. The story began on October 31st 1984, when the assassination of Mrs. Gandhi took place. An innocent sixteen-year-old girl, Amrita Gill was tragically came home to find her parents murdered too because of the riots. Instead of being alone in the riots that occurred in India, Amrita was for
For some culture, it may seem strange, but that's how the marriage culture goes in India. I don't know exactly how's the culture in India; however, in the country where I was born, Indonesia, which I think there won't be many differences in culture with India. Later on, he began to introduce himself. She moved to Seattle, where she can live in the same roof with her uncle, the only living relative that she had now. Rose who was raised in a western culture also found it easy to talk to another man or hold another man's hand. However, they did succeed in their marriage although they were raised in different culture. The reason why I choose the Rose and Ajay chapter is because I like the way they fell in love between each other and how the cross cultural romance grew although they were raised in a different culture. The fact that Pritam was an intelligent officer. According to me, if we fall in love before the marriage, it can prevent us from divorce. This book also gained me knowledge about the arranged marriage system in India. In the passage, I also find that Ajay's first date with Rose was the first date for him, which means that he never date another woman before, not even his own wife that has just passed by a year ago. She worked in convenience store and fast food restaurant and tried to live by her own in her new life. Gandhi's assassination and the relevance with Beant Singh, Kehar, and Gurbachan. With the help of Jaswant's friend in India, Ramesh, they could get all the information about Ajay and his wife, Rose. Although there is some people do that.
