Gerald Ford
Gerald Ford was born Leslie Lynch King on July 14, 1913 to Dorothy Gardner King and Leslie King. In 1915 during WW1 his parents got a divorce and his mother went home to her parent's house in Grand Rapids. Shortly after she was home she met Gerald R. Ford and was married. They changed Leslie's name to Gerald R. Ford Jr. and was the only child for about five years. Jerry played football when he was in school until he went to a law school. Ford then became President of the United States in 1974 after he was done with being a lawyer. Gerald Ford graduated from South High School in June 1931. Ford was such a good football player that three top universities invited him to their campuses Michigan State, Northwestern, and Harvard. Harry Kipke, famous coach at Michigan State, brought Ford there for the weekend and then put him back on a bus personally to try and get him to go to Michigan. Ford was not sure of how he was going to afford college but then Gettings and some of the Michigan alumni arranged for Ford to get a scholarship from Ford's high school. Then Kipke found him a job a job waiting on tables at the University Hospital and cleaning the nurses' cafeteria. Gerald's aunt and uncle also gave him two do
Michigan was supposed to play Georgia Tech but they did not want to play with the Willis, so they told Michigan that they would not play if Willis played. In 1938 they let him take two courses on a trial basis; he did sufficiently well and was admitted. Pond offered him $2,400 for 12 months of work as assistant football coach, junior varsity coach, and coach of the Yale boxing team. Later that year he was selected to play in the College All-stars for the traditional game against the Bears. Jerry was good enough as a center and linebacker that he was invited to play in the East-West Shrine Game in San Francisco. Jerry and Phyllis dated for more then four years. He played fifty-eight minutes and was offered to play professional football with the Green Bay Packers, but he told coach Curly Lambeau that he would think about it. After about 30 years Ford became the President of the United States of America. Phyllis got Ford to go skiing, a sport that Jerry never mastered. Ford decided to play because he wanted the team to win and he hoped it would help the team go on a winning streak. Ford's junior year, 1933, the Wolverines went undefeated but he did not play much because the team had a senior at center. After that game Ford was again offered to play pro football by the Packers and Detroit Lions. They ended up beating Tech 9-2, but the team ended up only winning that game and was 1-8 for the season. Jerry only dated occasionally during his college days at Michigan, some female classmates said that they admired him but did not think he was a ladies man.
