The family in Ryan's essay felt as if they had a constant encouraging role model that they could turn to for all aspects of life at any time including at the dinner table. The family in Steve's essay felt as if they had a militant father who did not want to be disturbed especially at the dinner table with the things that happened in his family's life unless they were things of his own importance. He had a special distaste for his child's petty and meaningless problems. Ryan's father would sacrifice all that he could to feed his children and put them before him by purposely serving them abundant portions of food so there was little for him. Food was not the most important thing during the Ryan's dinner, conversation was. At dinner they were also allowed to speak about anything that crossed their minds with out worrying about whether nor not they would offend their loving father. This gave them a time to present ideas to their father or to simply share thoughts about their experiences in life. Steve's family felt like they could never eat with the etiquette that their father hypocritically imposed upon them. The Ryan family had the utmost respect for the father because of the love that he showed them while the Steve's family respected their father out of fear.
             The father in Ryan's essay was seen as the father and the role model without trying to chisel it into his children's heads. The father in Steve's essay engraved the fact that he was the bigger and more confident role model into his child's head over and over with no remorse. His family viewed him as the one who did everything right and no matter how exactly alike they imitated him, they would always fail to meet his standards of excellence.
