It is the way that people communicate with each other and conduct business. The Internet is a fast and efficient way to get information and news around the globe. It is a rarity to see anyone that does not have e-mail or the Internet. I would not be able to conduct my business without the service of e-mail. In my particular job as a recruiter for the Army, I am placed away from my leadership. They are unable to be near me on a daily basis. My superiors pass their guidance to me through my e-mail, so I have to check it every morning. I have to start in the morning by first starting up my computer. I have an IBM laptop that is furnished to me by the government. There are a few steps that I do have to go through each morning before being able to get to my e-mail. The security mangers for the Army have several steps in place for me in order to keep viruses and hackers out of our databases. The computers for recruiting command have protected programs that contain social security numbers inside. After the computer has completed the checks, I am prompted to place in my controlled access c
When the message comes into the computer they are placed into the top inbox to be checked for bad or infected files. After the signal is found, another will appear that prompts me for my security pin number again. When I look at the Outlook, it is separated into three main boxes. After seven minutes, it is finally time to check my e-mail. This particular system is a little more secure, but a little more complicated. The next step is taken over by the security manger from the mother computer, which is located at Fort Knox, Kentucky. The Asset manager adds any new updates to programs in the C drive and will take away any unneeded program. I can get my guidance from my supervisors and my day can begin. I am now online and almost ready to check my e-mail. To reply or forward the message, those buttons are located on the top of the page. All updates to the firewall and virus scan programs will be updated as well. If it happens to be infected, the computer will quarantine it and then delete it. I can save money on telephone bills and keep my family informed on how my life is going. After two weeks, it became second nature and I am now able to move through this about 15 minutes. It was tough and very time consuming when I was first learning the steps.
