Alice in Wonderland
The novel has two separate settings. The main plot takes place in the amazing and intriguing place of "Wonderland". The second setting is the land of empirical (based on experience) reality to which Alice actually belongs. It's also the land that she shares with her sister. Alice is the protagonist of the story. She's an English girl of about seven with an active imagination and a fondness for showing off her knowledge. Cheshire Cat is a grinning cat with the ability to appear and disappear at will. He claims to be mad; nevertheless, he is one of the most reasonable characters in Wonderland. White Rabbit is a nervous character of somewhat. He's generally is in a hurry, but responsible for leading Alice into Wonderland. Queen of Hearts is a monstrous, violently domineering woman. She seems to hold the ultimate authority in Wonderland, for the reason that she's the queen of Wonderland. King of Hearts is an incompetent and useless ruler almost entirely dominated by his wife, who has the title of king of Wonderland. This leads her (Alice's sister) to foresee the days when her sister would gather round her a dozen bright and innocent children who would in turn listen with curiosity all about that intriguing land called "Wonderland". The major theme of the story revolves around the experiences of a child in a world of imagination, and the journey from childhood to adulthood. Her encounter with the caterpillar is very helpful because it is through the caterpillar that she manages to know the way in which one could change their height depending on the situation. Mock Turtle teaches Alice about "lessons. Caterpillar teaches Alice to change size at will. The novel opens with Alice and her sister sitting on the bank of a river. Alice observes the trial and is asked to give evidence to the court. The novel ends on a very typical fairy tale like note. Her desire to get through a little door that leads to a beautiful garden takes her on an adventure to the house of a Duchess, a mad tea party where she meets the Mad Hatter and March Hare. Her sister is the one who leads her out of the dream to the world of reality. She shows progress throughout the course of the book; in the beginning, she can barely maintain enough composure to keep herself from crying. The irony in Alice In Wonderland was that it was all a fantastic dream. She comes into numerous new situations in which adaptability is absolutely necessary for success. The Queen becomes very symbolic of a character that is a sadist at heart and ironically she is indeed the Queen of Hearts. The past (Alice's dream) is re-experienced by Alice's sister, who is symbolic of the present.
