Memorable History Moments
What is history? History is defined as "a chronological record of significant events (as affecting a nation or institution) often including an explanation of their causes" (Marriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary). Though history is a record of significant events, no one can really tell exactly how the history of the events has happened. History to some people is a fact, but to some people, it is just an opinion. Therefore, history can be present as a fact or just an opinion. However, the most memorable events in history are seen through the media, which consist of pictures and a person telling the events. People care about what they see more than what they read. The three events in history that I think had mostly affected the American's culture are the Rodney G. King's beating, the O.J. Simpson's trial, and the Bill Clinton's scandal. Starting with Rodney G. Television had broadcast his trial throughout the ten months until the day the verdict was given. President Clinton was impeached due to "a result of issues surrounding personal indiscretions with a young woman White House intern" (Freidel). Simpson was shown live nationally on television being chased by the Los Angeles police trying to arrest him for the murder of his wife and her boyfriend. This event would not be a media memorable moment if the media did not broadcast and show pictures during the trial, especially the evidence that were shown during the trial. On October 3, 1995, the trial was finally ended with a verdict of not guilty for O. This event became so well known by many people, especially to the African-Americans. The event has affected the American's culture nationally through the media. The event became a memorable media moment because O.
