Factors Affecting Strength

The author of this article starts off by saying that he read that there were two factors that deal with increased strength increased muscle size, and increased neuromuscular efficiency. He says that this is incorrect and that there are more than 38 factors that affect strength. He then says two many people whom lift weights only lift weights and disregard things that would help them increase there strength as much as lifting do

. . .

Like, why would I care that the extent of cell fusion adds to my strength? Overall I would say that this article is very complete and well written. I guess I had forgotten that there were so many different ways to become stronger. If an athlete were to eat properly they would increase their Max lift and then make this change worthwhile.

Reaction: I think this article is pretty decent. I would also say that it brings up good points that aren’t commonly known. Some of the things they listed were kind of useless though because it would be impossible to improve them. It reminds you that the biggest muscles don’t necessarily lift the most. He also says that while there are many things that affect strength one must take into account that certain exercises counter act each other. For example, many lifters do not eat the right foods. Some issues that affect strength are: Muscle fiber arrangement, musculoskeletal leverage, ratio of muscle types, freedom from injury, strength reflex, your brains feedback loop, heart rate, arousal level, freedom from disease, coordination, the placebo effect, the effect of gravity, and your environment. For example, if you run long distance run, your expressiveness in the short run would decrease.
