Home Alone

In 1990, the hit comedy “Home Alone” was released on video. This movie is a nasty, evil,

and sadistic motion picture. In the same respect, I think it is one of the funniest movies I have

ever seen. For those of you who do not remember this film, it was about the McAllister family’s

vacation and somehow Macaulay Culkin (Kevin) was mistakenly left home alone. Meanwhile that

same morning Kevin believes that somehow his wish has finally come true; he’s finally rid of his

family! He can jump on the beds, watch R-rated movies, eat gobs of ice cream and potato chips,

and look through his older brother’s stuff. Kevin also has to deal with the scary furnace in the

cellar which appears to be a monster, the old man next door who is a snow-shoveling murderer,

and lastly the two crooks who try to break into his house. This movie closely parallels what

Ever since I was a little girl my parents have always told me not to talk to strangers, open

the door, or answer the phone. When my family moved into a small culdesac development my

parents reinforced those guidelines. I lived in my new house about a year prior to the attempted

break-in. There are only fifteen houses in my development, and

. . .

After the man

failed getting in the garage door, he nonchalantly moved to the back of my house, and tried to

thrust open the sliding glass door. We called the police and had them survey the house and the neighborhood. All I could

hear was the ringing, knocking, and the sound of my veins pumping my blood. I started to flash back to all the things my mother told me about

not answering the door for strangers. The rings were no longer spread out, but instead became more persistent. My natural

instinct was to look out the window and see which neighbor was coming or going. Every single noise I

heard seemed to be magnified times one hundred.

This event was the most surreal experience.

Little did I know that this would be one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. I

continued to hear the same truck drive slowly up and down the street. The pitch black darkness engulfed my body, and the only thing left to

do was to cry. The doorknob was

being fondled, and his weight kept thrusting against the door. I could not make out his face because he was wearing

dark tinted sunglasses and a baseball cap hovering over his eyebrows. I snapped out of my daze, turned off the television, and threw all the

blankets out of the chest beside the sofa. All of a sudden, the noises stopped.
