President George Herbert Walker Bush

George Herbert Walker Bush was born in Milton, Massachusetts on June 12, 1924 the second of five children of Prescott Sheldon Bush and Dorothy Walker Bush. His mother Dorothy was the daughter of a wealthy investor, and his father Prescott was an investment banker and US Senator from Connecticut. As a child, George attended private schools in Greenwich, Connecticut, and later the prestigious Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. On his 18th birthday, he joined the US Naval Reserve and became the youngest pilot in the Navy when he received his wings at the age of 20. As carrier pilot during World War II, he was shot down by Japanese fire over the Pacific Ocean and was rescued from the water by a U. S. submarine. Following this mission he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for bravery in action as well as three Air Medals. Discharged in 1945, he returned to his family in Greenwich. Later that year he married Barbara Pierce, with whom he had six children, including current president George W. Bush. Also, he continued his education by enrolling at Yale University, following a family tradition. While there, he joined the exclusive Skull and Bones society. He majored in economics, completed college in three years and gra

Furthermore, he served as Chairman of the Republican National Committee, Chief of the US Liaison Office in China, and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. After weeks of air and missile bombardment, the mission named Desert Storm forced Iraq's army to retreat. He didn't give up though and went on to become the first Republican to represent Houston in the House of Representatives in 1966. Also, Bush promised no new taxes, and President Reagan campaigned for him as well, increasing his popularity. Furthermore, his determination to making the United States into a "kinder, gentler" country in terms of its foreign policy was admirable. In 1970, Bush was defeated once again in running for the United States Senate. Reagan chose Bush as his running mate, and Bush served two terms as vice president. In 1992 he lost the race for re-election to Democratic leader William Clinton. duated with Phi Beta Kappa honors in 1948. Unfortunately, he was unable to adequately resolve domestic problems, thus losing his second presidential campaign. President Bush sent 425,000 American troops, joined by 118,000 troops from allied nations, to free Kuwait. Also during his stay in office, President Bush sent American troops into Panama to overthrow the corrupt organization of General Manuel Noriega. Bush, became the 43rd president of the United States. I rate him this way because for the most part, he was able to please his people, and he made no major errors. Bush resigned from the CIA in 1977 to begin campaigning for the 1980 Republican presidential nomination.
