Censorship on the Internet

             In the 1960s, the U.S government created a ARPANET network, which was used "to test methods of enabling computer networks to survive military attacks, by means of the dynamic rerouting of messages" (The Columbia Encyclopedia, Sixth Edition. 2001, par. 4). In 1990, Hypertext Markup Language was created and used to simplify the way documents were sent and received through the internet (Bellis, par. 1&2 ). In 1994, the ARPANET was no more and the internet had become international (Internet Protocols (TCP/IP), par 7&9). After few years, the internet has become a enormous source of information, entertainment, and communication. The internet also makes it popular among many individuals. Its convenience has allowed many individuals to share their thoughts and opinions with the world. In recent years, the government has been trying to restrict the content of information which is seen by children and adults all over the internet because of the sensitivity of the subjects. The idea of internet censorship is unconstitutional, not responsible, and impossible.
             A reason censoring is unconstitutional is because it against the First Amendment rights which allows the public has the right to use various sources of information based on ranging in opinion. The First Amendment rights state that, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances" (Amendments to The Constitution of The United Satets, par. 1). Although the legislation passed has also been to protect children from speech other than pornography, the question is how far the government will go.
