The afore-mentioned statement was made by Professor Warren Bennis, the founding chairman of the Leadership Institute at the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business. Prof. Bennis asserts that while no one factor makes a company admirable, the one element that makes the biggest difference is leadership. In his article titled “The Leadership Advantage” , Prof. Bennis supports his views by quoting several high-positioned leaders. As we were working directly with the client, my company did not benefit from the knowledge we were acquiring. Eventually, the client company transitioned one of their own employees into the role. And consulting is not about project maintenance. In one of the projects I (Helmut) was involved in, I worked with a Partner who was new to the role. People skills: the ability to communicate, motivate, and delegate. A good leader examines past experiences and utilizes lessons learned to react to new situations. The need for these skills is magnified if the group possesses a diverse set of skills or is from different cultural backgrounds as is often the case in consulting.
