The movie, Jagged Edge, stars Glenn Close as Teddy Barnes. Barnes is a former criminal prosecutor who takes a hiatus from her current corporate cases in order to defend a client of her firm in a high profile double-murder trial. She has not practiced criminal law in four years because of a case in which her boss, District Attorney Tom Crassney, withheld evidence that would have dissmissed the charges against the accused. Now she must face-off against Crassney, with whom she suspects is up to his old tricks.

Discovery is a procedure that is used by either party to obtain evidence that is in the hands of the other party. Occasionally, one surprise witness may appear, but it is rare. The only things accurate about the scene were the Miranda rights that were orally presented to Forrester. Discovery was one of the larger issues in this movie.
Eventually, Barnes believes that Forrester is innocent. When she confronts him with her findings, he tries to kill her. The romance builds obstacles for her in the trial and creates conflicts between her and Forrester.
Evidence was also introduced to the court in this manner. Generally, the prosecution presents its statements to the jury.
