Appalling Driving Habits.

             To show how driving is dangerous.
             Twenty first century automobile drivers are so preoccupied with multitasking that we all take our life in our hands each time we shift into drive.
             C. Ignoring meaning of traffic signs
             I am astonished at the ways that driving has changed since I first got behind the wheel of a car, with a driver's education instructor seated bravely by my side.
             I've noticed that for many people in today's society, operating a motor vehicle offers them the ideal opportunity for concurrently performing a variety of unrelated tasks. As a result, its now not uncommon and apparently perfectly acceptable, to drive down the highway while simultaneously engaging in other activities. We have all seen some of the following: reading, working a crossword puzzle, cleaning out the ashtray or glove box, checking lipstick, combing/brushing hair, teeth brushing, shaving.
             I see drivers everyday that apparently believe that it is far more critical to engage in a cell phone conversation or checking the stock quotes on their laptop, than to ensure that safety measures are being employed to the maximum.
             Although these behaviors are dangerous, we don't seem to be bothered when we encounter another driver engaged in them. Perhaps because our lifestyles afford us too much to do and too little time to do it, we feel justified, if not obligated, to accomplish several things at once.
