The first group of athletes in my list would be children from elementary school up to middle school. They would be in the age range of 8 year olds to 14 year olds. There might be some arguments from older athletes as to if these youngsters can be regarded as real athletes at all due to the fact that they are so young, and might not have any real sense of competition I believe that since they play organized games and have organized practice sessions and work just as hard as older athletes to the best
. . .
A good example of an athlete in this category would be my ten-year-old brother. His team lost the state finals because he lost his competitiveness and his enthusiasm to play. I also believe that since they play games, they have (however little) some sense of competition in them. They will most certainly abandon the sport. Then they start dealing with nervousness, pre-game stress, pre-game anxiety and pressure. An older sibling might play a particular sport, and the youngster might be influenced to do the same. He had been under stress and pressure a few weeks before this, as he knew it was coming. In this category, none of the athletes should be motivated by the urge to impress people, not even members of their family. He ended up taking all his frustration out on this team member. Suddenly it is not fun anymore, it becomes work. His motivation throughout his college years had been that if he could graduate from college, he might move on to the next level, and in his case, this would be the National Football League.
