The Milgram Experiment

Stanley Milgram conducted perhaps one of the most famous psychology experiments of our times. The subject was informed that no harm would be incurred The learning task involved pair-associated words. People see their actions emanating from the wishes of the authority and not from themselves. These combined considerations should conceivably produce a group who would not participate in mass-murdering activities and other horrendous crimes. Every subject proceeded past the predicted break point, and not one subject stopped before 300 volts. He endeavoured to answer three questions. The goriness of mass murdering reduced the number of participating men, but does not compare to the decline that Milgram observed. As with Milgram・s experiment, some men in Battalion 101 mitigated orders when not under direct supervision and no personal risks was involved. The agentic state is not merely obedience, it is the psychological process that allows individuals to be more inclined towards obedience. This was due to increasingly pathological behaviours displayed by both groups, along with the increasingly brutal and sadistic behaviour exhibited by the guards . ； The disturbing results of Milgrams・ experiments allowed him to conclude, ：men are led to kill with little difficulty； .
