At the end of the fourteenth century, gothic architecture began to wear off and renaissance architecture moved in. Europe was evolving out of the middle ages and in the Renaissance period. The beliefs in humanity were growing in popularity. Along with the changes in ways of life, politics, families and etc. the architecture and architects were also changing. The architects of the time revived yet also changed the ideas from classical Greek and Roman architecture. They did however; begin using new materials such as brick, and impaticular red brick. Architects and artists no longer worked independently of one another, which is why many renaissance buildings contain murals, and statues.

A group of Italian scholars, some of whom were amateur architects influenced the birth of Renaissance Architecture. Bramante was the original architect and designed the structure as a combination of a square, circular and Greek cross forms. Michelangelo designed the ribbed dome shape as a Renaissance version of earlier Gothic style domes. In England the Renaissance evolved in the middle of the sixteenth century and uses various style such as the Elizabethan and Jacobean styles. Italians eventually considered this dome to be their greatest engineering accomplishment. The Germans retained their love for medieval forms.
The greatest accomplishment of later Renaissance architecture was the reconstruction of St. Their style though original and showing great craftsmanship lacked truly great architects and never achieved full development such as in Italy, France and England. The project began by Pop Julius II deciding it was time for a new church to be built.
Renaissance architecture also existed in places such as Germany and England. Their style then quickly spread outside of Florence to cities such as Rome and Milan, and eventually made it’s way North to the Netherlands and then began to encompass the rest of Europe, however, France did not witness Renaissance architecture first hand until almost 125 years after it began in Florence. They used classical motifs as well as medieval forms. Architects such as Donato Bramante, Michelangleo, and Gian Lorenzo Bernini headed the project.
