Football Game
The alarm clock sounds at seven am, Bzzzz, Bzzzz, Bzzzz! I reach out with my left hand to hit the snooze button, but a thought enters my mind, it is game day. Today is the day of my senior homecoming football game. I rise out of bed and go to the window. I pull the cord on the blinds and look outside. The frost has just glazed the bottom panes of the glass. I look and see the perfect day for a football game, overcast, gloomy, and gray. I trudge my way to the shower and turn the knob. The hot water cascades over my body; the excitement of the upcoming day rushes through me like a bolt of lightning. I finish showering and go back into my room to get dressed. I slide my jersey from its hanger, good old number 20 and take it up to my nose. I smell the past games, triumphs and defeats. I put the jersey on go to my car. I am too nervous to stop and eat breakfast, but grab a banana anyway. The drive to the school seems to take an eternity. I have a million thoughts running through my head. At last, I arrive at the school. The cars all around me are painted to show school spirit. In the parking lot I see my friends pull up and a go over to greet them. Our conversation is centered on the
As I walked onto the field, gazing at the lights I was ready, the whole day culminating in this moment, it was game time. As I walked into my last class of the day, I mumbled an apology to the teacher then sat at my desk. For lunch my four closest friends and I went on to the usual place to go on game day. I break off from the pack to go and find my girlfriend. We are all decked out in the white, black and red. It is almost time for lunch; I barley made it through my first four classes. When we arrived at my friend's house we grabbed some high carbohydrate and high protein food so that we would have plenty of energy for the game. We met in the locker room at four forty five and get geared up for tonight's contest. As we took a moment of silence and left to go on the gridiron, I felt it, something was different; inside I knew that we were going to get a victory tonight, no matter what the cost. As I saw her my eyes lit up with a magical gleam, she ran over to me and gave me a warm embrace. The bus ride was one of silence, to allow us to get focused, get pumped up and mentally and physically prepared. I was as focused, excited and determined as I would ever be and the game had not even started. I asked how she was; she said that she couldn't wait for seven to roll around. With my favorite cd in my cd player I was thinking about how much I would enjoy the game and how hard I would have to work to get the job done.
