Many of today’s football coaches try to use fear, intimidation and anger to lead their teams and to motivate them to be the best team on the field. Herman Edwards, the coach of the New York Jets has a different approach to leading his team to victory. Unlike being a loud- mouthed, obnoxious, fearful coach he uses his positive attitude to earn his players trust and to run a successful team. Edwards’ constant positive attitude can be seen as a motivational tool for his team. He is also calm; keeping his cool during stressful events assures his team that everything will be ok. ct and trust of the people who are working along with him. I feel that his coaching approach is a very good idea. This can be related to the teams in any field that are not as successful as others. We are now struggling to reach the success and make the accomplishments we once made. For example where I work we had a manager who was always smiling, eager and happy to be at work. He was trusted, well liked, and most importantly had a positive attitude. Although what we can accomplish is never limited nor can our success, since a new manager joined the team and our beloved manager left things changed. Not only in the sport field can a positive attitude be key to success, but also anywhere and any in any situation. When he was the manager of my department we were number one all across the board and the team was extremely successful and our accomplishments were endless. Working under someone who always has a positive attitude makes working for them that much more comfortable and naturally motivates the person to want to do better not only for themselves but also for their leader. Although people are motivated by different things and driven to be the best for different reasons, I believe that Herman Edwards has the best approach to being a successful leader. It works to earn your teams trust and to smile every once in a while. Besides the fact that Herm already has many accomplishments under his belt it is relevant to believe that these victories will not be ending anytime soon. His coaching style and techniques can definitely be applied to a non-sport field. Going from having a positive enforced environment to being ‘motivated’ by fear and intimidation took a change for the worse.
