What creates controversy? Controversy is caused when an idea or a thought contradicts the traditional social norms. But without ideas, we would not be where we are today. The painting involving carnal pleasures between two women became the cover of the recent Lords of Acid album, Voodoo-U. Literature, music, art, cries of, "pornography," "values," and "taste". You may just think the paintings are entertaining, aesthetically pleasing, or not. This caused much uproar in the conservative and ignorant society's as it challenged every aspect of decent human society. Thus, true controversial art is not a crime, but stifling creativity is. You may be completely offended by them. The continuous questioning of societal custom regarding sexuality, spirituality, and society as a whole may be the greatest gift art can give us. But to dismiss controversial works because of personal belief, to stifle art, thereby constraining debate is a crime in it self. Without these aspects then art would be monotonous. Controversial artist making headlines is, Chris Cooper, better known as, Coop. st to be attacked are artistic institutions. You may disagree with this interpretation. That debate strikes to the core of civilized society. Thanks to controversial artists like Coop, Manet and Duchamp the debate concerning pornography and art will continue, as it should. Coop's art, especially through his theme of a sexual woman as a devil, is misogynistic explaining that such vivid thoughts of sexuality could not come across a woman's mind.
