I don't know if it was really a failure, but a critical decision that I made was to play basketball in college instead of soccer. I had played soccer my whole life and was rather successful at it. However, when choosing a sport to play in college, I was faced with a difficult decision. When I was younger, I had always dreamed of playing soccer at a big time college, but the more I played basketball, the more I wanted to play it in college. There is no point in giving half an effort, when it only makes sense to give 100% at everything. It was a tough one to make, but I was happy with it. I didn't really see any problem with my decision at first. It is kind of tough to determine the mistakes I've made in choosing soccer over basketball. I always thought that basketball was just an all-around more exciting sport, and I still think it is. I'm happy with the decision that I've made, but sometimes it is hard not to think of what would have happened if I chose the other. I started my first year out at Bethel College in Indiana and then transferred to Mount Vernon. I think that determined a lot in my decision making. It has helped me out by showing me that whatever I'm trying to accomplish, I need to go all out at attacking it. But, that never took away from my desire to want to play it in college. One mistake is that if I could have known which sport I was going to play for sure in college, I would have just given 100% to that sport and just concentrated on one or the other. I do still miss soccer and wonder what would have happened if I would have pursued it further. However, after watching some of the soccer games, I began to miss it and wondered if I should have chosen to play soccer instead.
