The US was justified in Dropping the atomic bomb.
On August 6, 1945, the eighth largest city in Japan, Hiroshima suffered an extremelysepulchral day. The United States had unleashed "Little Boy." "Little Boy" was anextremely powerful, atomic bomb. "Little Boy" had killed some 80,000 people in the cityof Hiroshima (Hoare 18-20). Three days later an analogous situation had occurred in theJapanese city of Nagasaki . This atomic bomb, "Fat Man," had killed another 100,000people (Hoare 18-20). Many people were killed and many others were injured. Somebelieve that the dropping of the atomic bombs was inhumane, but these people do notrealize what could have been lost if World War II would have continued any longer. TheUnited States had been fighting this massive war since 1941. Despite these luridoccurrences, the United States was justified in the dropping of the atomic bombs on theJapanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The dropping of the atomic bombs was, and still is, an extremely controversialmilitary strategy in the United States and all over the world. Many scientists believed thatit would be immoral to drop the atomic bomb on the two Japanese cities without warningthem, therefore, they began a petition (The Americans 751). Others supported

Japanwould face "prompt and utter destruction" unless they surrendered right away. Atomic bombs produce heat millions of degrees high. ThenI learned to what length a man will go to hang on to his life. The Japanese suicidal fighting strategies greatly effected the death toll ofWorld War II. Many people also believed that the United States should have chose toinvade rather than drop the atomic bombs and kill 200,000 of the Japanese people. It was the atomicbomb that forced Japan to surrender and in turn saved thousands, if not millions, of lives. " (The Americans 752) After the Japanese had taken over French military bases in Indochina, the UnitedStates had decided to cut off trade with Japan. One of the suicide methods of the Japanese was called the Kamikaze. In addition to the innocent citizens who would die from attack,the soldiers of the United States were undergoing harsh treatment by the unmercifulJapanese (Encarta 3). "There were surely two reasons for using these two, enormously destructive weapons. The Japanese woulduse prisoners for target practice and they would also dissect and experiment on dead andliving prisoners (Sweeney 94 95). That was because we wished in this first attack to avoid, in sofar as possible, the killing of civilians. For example, when Japanese troops invaded Nanking, the human cost wasbetween 100,000 and 200,000 for no reason at all except what may be described as bloodlust. Also, the forces of the United Stated would not only have to fight off the Japanesemilitary, but they would have to defend themselves against the civilians of Japan as well.
