Thucydides

Thucydides was one of the greatest Greek historians of the ancient Greeks. He did most of his work around 400 B.C. and he was a citizen of Athens. He was most famous for his History of the Peloponnesian War. He fought in the war and became a general. The war lasted for 27 years, from 431 to 401 B.C. In Thucydides opinion he thought that the Greeks fought the hardest they ever had during the war. The Peloponnese was the southern part of Greece controlled by Sparta. During this war Athens, the biggest and greatest city-state of in ancient Greece, was attack by the Spartans and the Persians. Athens was taxing and taking the money of the other city-states of Greece and many city-states were mad so they asked Sparta to help stop Athens. The Persians had tried and failed twice already trying to destroy Athens. The war lasted for 27 years, 431 B.C. to 404 B.C. This is Thucydides' thought of w


They had a great empire before it was destroyed by the Sparta and Persia. He was exiled from the city because he was accused of failing to protect the city of Amphilpolis. Before the Peloponnesian War began, ancient Greece had the greatest military, cultural, and political development. They began to expand their city-state into an empire, which would have power of many other city-states. Thucydides was banished from Athens. The knowledge about the life of Thucydides is incomplete. In the books he wrote of the first 20 years of the war. Thrace is an ancient province that began that lasted from 700 B. He tried to do his best in finding and recording facts and people from the war. , he suffered from the plague as well.
