Similarities and Differences Between Two Fairy Tales
We have selected "The Horse Dealer's Daughter" and Cinderella, and will compare and contrast the differences and similarities between them. These two stories have many similarities: both of the persecuted heroines have the same kind of life style; they both suffer from the inequalities, which exist in their families. They are both abused, they are both young females and also both have lost their parents. Mabel is living with her tree brothers, and their parents are both dead. She really loved her mom and after her death, Mabel's life became miserable. Her three brothers didn't really like her; therefore she had no other choice but to work. Her brothers treated her like a maid, not as a sister: " They had talked at her and round her for so many years"(D.H. Lawrence. The Horse Dealer's Daughter. p.399) Living in a small town was even worse, because she couldn't have any friends.Cinderella on the other hand, wasn't in any better a situation than Mabel. In Cinderella, we see that Cinderella and the prince get married. 600) The second time that Cinderella and the prince meet, is the day that they get married to each other but in the story it is not really explained in detail, therefore, we don't know what happens next. Her stepmother was cruel and unfair to her. She was Cinderella's magic help, which was going to make her dream come true.
