The Great Transition
Fall is the great transition, leaving the sunniest months of the year, and gently preparing us for winter, making the days grow colder, the trees become barer, and bringing with the wind a new alpine smelling frozen bite. Although this transition is a day to day process, it is easy to tell when fall has commenced. School begins, trees grow bare, dew turns to frost, and breath can be seen. Why is this transition so special? How can it even be noticed? This I will show you!Walking through the streets on a chilly fall day can bring tons of different sights. Leaves swaying back and forth and they fall from their summer home, breath protruding from the mouths of people like smoke from a cigarette, and puddles making sidewalks a slippery hazard fo
Another scent of fall is the smell of concrete steaming in the sun after a fall downpour, almost like it has been completely cleaned. Whether it is felt by touch, sight, or smell, fall brings a feeling of sadness because summer has ended, while also bringing a feeling of joy and a new beginning. Just like getting punched in the nose, or being high-fived by a friend, fall can touch us in many ways, and can be felt through many situations. With the cold comes the alpine air that can almost be tasted. Fall can bring a lot of different types of scents and smells. It is the death of summer, and the birth of winter, where certain privileges and opportunities fade away, but new and different ones are born. Leaves fluttering past the body, or gently skimming ones clothing, are all familiar ways that the sense of touch applies to fall. The air that bites at your fingers, and makes them numb is another example of a way to touch fall. Different from the ordinary air, this air is fresh and reminds me of the snow, like if air could be manufactured, it would be the new kind. From a fresh, cold, nose burning smell, to a warm sparkling reborn smell, they all tell again of the transition taking place. In conclusion, fall is a transition between summer and winter that can be seen and felt through many ways. Fall is important, and necessary to leading us away from summer, and into the winter period. What if everyone spent time walking places, or on the way to their destinations looking at what is going on around them? Cold air on your face, burning through your nostrils into your lungs, and back out again as a warm steam, Does this make you think of anything? The second I step foot out of the car for school and the cold air touches my face, I am again reminded of the transition taking place around me.
