In the Middle Eastern culture, terrorism has been an effective way to cause pandemonium for the purpose of political manipulation. The Middle Eastern interests are not cohesive or powerful enough to directly or successfully advocate against the compelling interests of the United States. It cannot face an opponent the size of the U.S. in a military or political fashion so the solution is to resort to a lesser, but equally effective state of domination, by fear. The only way for them to achieve a victory is through random destruction of property or innocent, unsuspecting human victims. Terrorism has been an effective technique for the weak to have an effect over the powerful. From the Middle East's rage against America to the civil war in Ireland, terrorism has taken on many forms. For the purpose of this paper, the Middle Eastern angle and involvement of the United Nations will be discussed. WESTERN PERCEPTIONS OF THE MIDDLE EASTERN TERRORIST Most Americans see Middle Eastern terrorism as a Hollywood depiction. It is not surprising that the American view of the Middle Eastern terrorist is of a psychopathic Islamic without a conscious or reason. On January 24, 1993, Mir Aimal Kansi, a Pakistani Iranian agent, shot several people at the gates of the CIA headquarters in Langley, showing America that Tehran was serious. In America, there have been very little Jihad-related terrorist attempts lately. Unfortunately for them, the peace between nations and security conditions within nations, have improved, especially in America. That October, a marine barracks in Beirut was car-bombed killing two hundred and forty-one marines and wounding hundreds more. The terrorism seems to be mostly focused on Americans, so relating to the jihad, but there many cases where they are not. The Muslim, or Islamic religion, does not condone murder. In 1988, an American was kidnapped, and in 1989, a Pan Am airplane was bombed, killing two hundred and seventy people. An empire of terrorist sponsoring Middle Eastern states have been constructed and lead by Iran since the 1979 Iranian revolution and backed by Syria, Sudan, Libya, Iraq, and Pakistan. MIDDLE EASTERN TERRORISM AS AN INTERNATION THREAT AND RESPONSIBLITY Middle Eastern terrorism is an international issue and is an appropriate concern for the United Nations. ” Since there was no big reaction from Washington, Tehran decided that the terrorist operation should proceed as planned. Osama bin Laden is still at large, along with the four foremost threatening jihad motivated terrorist groups. What needs to be done to break the terrorist groups in the Middle East is to hit them were it hurts.
