M The Movie
“Always there is this terrible voice force inside of me driving me on. Im always afraid of myself, of people, of ghost, always I must walk streets alone, and always I am followed soundlessly. Yet I hear it. It’s me pursuing myself. I want to run to escape from myself but I can’t. I can’t escape I must obey. Forced to run endless streets, pursued by ghost, ghost of mothers and of those of children. They are always there, always. Except when I. Then I can’t remember anything. And afterwards I see those posters, I think, did I do that? But I don’t remember it! But who will believe me? Who knows what its like to be me? How im forced to act. How I must, must, don’t want to. But must! And then a voice screams. I can’t bear to hear it. I can’t go on. I can’t go on. I can’t go on”. In the movie “M” we see a murderer torment a city by killing there children. On the outside this person is just like anyone else. He goes about his business and goes through his day just like anyone else. But then these certain things happen that bring out this different person. This person has no control over himself and what he does. He does not think along the lines of a normal rational person. He is total . . .
No matter how many children he must rob of a life he would still continue to strive to fulfill this endless bloodlust that will never be satisfied until he is stopped. He stares at them wantingly and thoughtfully for awhile. Then while she was reading this poster the deep dark shadow is casting over her showing that something bad was going to happen. It is his trademark and which ultimately leads to his demise when the bum who sells balloons identifies him while he was preparing to murder yet another victim. He can’t bear to hear it or do what he does yet he has no control over it always feeling as if he is being pursued by this deeper darker thing inside of him. Then going out to murder another defenseless child, while whistling his song, and seeking out his next pray. This is a sign that his uncontrollable impulses have come out and another part of him takes over. This bum first herd his signature whistle when he was buying a balloon for Elsie Beckman. Which is a sign of German expressionism which Fritz Lang the director of this movie used a lot to signify evil. Such as the balloon was for Elsie Beckman and the candy was for the little girl he would have killed if it wasn’t for him being chased away and soon after captured. It is also important that he wrote all these letters in red ink signifying that it was the impulsive murder side of him writing this because red is the same color as blood showing that as this other part of him comes out he will want to kill more and more until he is stopped. After seeing this and still with his unfulfilled murderous appetite, fighting his unwanted urges he goes into a café to try to get control of himself. Showing us how much he would like to use such devices to kill that little girl he just saw and that even seeing these things can bring out those uncontrollable murderous impulses of his mental illness. That he is being forced to act this way by the terrible voices inside of him and is always tormented by these urges.
