             The painting, "July", captures a typical family day on a farm. With a very
             quick look, the average person, can only see four people sitting in chairs, but with a keen
             eye, one such person can find what the artist is trying to create. Fairfield Porter, the
             artist, chose the precise colors and setting, so the viewer feels the attitude of the painting.
             The choice of characters is also a way for the artist to express what the painting stands
             for. Color, setting and characters play an important role in all paintings, so viewers can
             catch the understandings of what the artist has immortalized.
             The setting takes place in a rural area. Three white barns and many trees grace
             the background of the painting, along with a bright blue sky. The land is very open and
             flat, for example a farm in the midwest. The leaves of the trees are varying in shades of
             green. Sunlight shines down through the trees creating a dark, black shade underneath
             the leaves. The bush is filled with white flowers, which petals are wide open soaking
             The four people gather around a table for lunch. The elderly man sits in lounge
             hair with his legs crossed and his socks rolled up high, such as the typical grandfather.
             The younger man wears a bright yellow shirt, he holds a drink in his left hand and
             sprawls his legs out in a very relaxed position. The younger mans wife has shoulder
             length brown hair, which is covered by a white hat, such as a hat worn by a woman to
